All You Need To Know About Oshun Deity

Oshun, also spelled Osun, an orisha (deity) of the Yoruba people. Oshun is commonly called the river orisha, or goddess, in the Yoruba religion and is typically associated with water, purity, fertility, love, and sensuality. She is considered one of the most powerful of all orishas, and, like other gods, she possesses human attributes such as vanity, jealousy, and spite. Several myths exist concerning Oshun and her significance as a Yoruba deity. In most Yoruba stories, Oshun is generally depicted as the protector, saviour, or nurturer of humanity. Oshun has also been described as the maintainer of spiritual balance or mother of sweet things. One myth highlights Oshun as the central figure in the creation of human beings. The Yoruba people believe that the orishas were sent by Olodumare, who is considered the Supreme God, to populate the Earth. Oshun, being one of the original 17 sent to Earth, was the only female deity. The other gods, all male, failed at their attempts to revive an

What A Husband Told His Wife The Night Of Their Respective Wedding

WHAT A HUSBAND TOLD HIS WIFE THE NIGHT OF THEIR MARRIAGE/ WEDDING My wife, everyone has gone home. The music is quiet, the celebration is over. Our wedding was beautiful but it is now in the past. We have finished the wedding/marriage, it is now time to build our marriage. All that is left now is the two of us… What we will become tomorrow, starts from tonight. Our life is no longer the same. There was a day you put on one red dress… You looked so beautiful in it. That Day I wanted to just touch you! We were in the Cinema and I was so tempted. I wanted to just take you inside the toilet and kiss you but I couldn’t. Guess what? Now I have you forever, I can do that everyday. Before I take off your cloth and make love to you… let me tell you few things. I have nothing to hide from you from this day. My phone, you can use it like your own. You can access my facebook, my twitter and my Instagram From today, I have become a child. For the past five years of my life, I have been a man

Why Ikale Is Really Underdeveloped

Editor’s Note: Ikale, one of the major tribes of Yoruba race, is located in the southern region of Ondo state. As one of the leading towns of the state, Ikale land is also one of the most endowed lands in Nigeria. Yet, relative to her vast potentials, the community remains underdeveloped. In this report by AANU ADEGUN, NAIJ.com traces the source of the challenges facing the great people of Ikale Omotosho power plant. Located on their land, yet the people last enjoined electricity over two years ago. Witches and wizards are widely recognized as agents of destruction in this clime of Africa. They are alleged to be notoriously averse to success and development. For every category of misfortunes, witches and wizards are mostly purported to be involved. And it is these dreaded extra-terrestrial beings who have been accused of having a greater influence in the injured growth of one of the most blessed lands in Nigeria, Ikale. A heated argument on the roles of witches and wizards

In Remembrance Of Nigeria's Ebola Heroine

Lorenz Ayoola Ola There’s a statue in Yaba, Lagos, of a man, whom many in Nigeria have forgotten. His family never have. And now, we all have a chance to remember him, and in a way, to honour him. He is the man on our one Naira coin. Herbert Olayinka Samuel Heelas Badmus Macaulay, had a daughter, Sarah Idowu Abigail, who would get married and give birth to a son, Babatunde Kwaku Adadevoh. Babatunde would grow up to become a doctor, and have kids of his own. One of these children, Stella Ameyo, became, like her father, a doctor. She would go on to work at a hospital in Obalende, Lagos, First Consultant Hospital, not very far from where her famous ancestor was once imprisoned by the British. It was to be at that that place of work that Stella Ameyo was to perform an act that would save the lives of possibly hundreds of thousands, and sacrifice her own in return. On July 20, 2014, a patient was wheeled in from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. Patrick Sawyer, the patient, h

Wise Up Nigerians Or Be Doomed

You could be financially screwed if this is your situation #NigerianRec Nigeria is right about neck-deep in a pit of recession and strangled in a hard to get out of stagflation. Interest rates are on the rise, jobs are being lost and the Federal government is broke. It’s a tough ordeal for everyone including policy makers and the government. Even the rich are feeling the heat as they see the value of their investments plummet nearly every day. Some people are however between a rock and a hard place and they probably do not know it yet. We believe that the earlier you find out or understand how precarious your situation is, the better for you. You can start to fix a bad situation by first acknowledging how bad it is and what can be done to remedy it. Who then could be financially screwed and why is this so? Here is what we think… You don’t have savings or investments Earning a kobo in this tough economy has never been harder. People who even earn are struggling to keep up wi

Daddy's Eyeballs

Image
Daddy's Eyeballs The year Kunle was to leave for another secondary school in Ondo town, Bukola, his mother felt as if a dark cloud has fallen upon her roof. It was a strange year, the year that a moon suddenly descended on the land in the middle of the afternoon, and when Kunle suddenly felt the deep-seated ache in his cervical spine on a Sunday morning preceding the Monday he would resume school, he thought the end was near. He lay on the bed gasping for breath while the nurses at St Peter's clinic pleaded with him to be calm as the doctor's syringe might tore the vein of his buttock. All he wanted to do was to see Churchill, his father, get well and leave Moribodo College for the yet - unknown school in Ondo but fate was not having any of that. And he came, in his white garment. Kunle saw in his father's eyes; uncertainties and fears, and for reasons unknown, he kept mute. It was Kunle who, would later read about the educational practice in ancient Greece, uni

The Ondo Aspirant--To What Extent Can We Trust Him?

The Ondo Aspirant--How Much Can We Trust Him? He had not been compromised by tyranny, and had reacted well to the reagents of the ethnic laws. He had been an opaque but reliable man in whom one could trust: and experience teaches us that just this, trust-worthiness is the most constant virtue, which is not acquired or lost with the years. One is born worthy of trust, with an open face and steady eyes, and remains such for life. He who is born contorted and lax remains that way: he who lies to you at five, lies to you at fifteen and fifty. One cannot vote just anyone to the position of a Governor. It is a delicate and complex job, not much different from that of diplomats: to perform it with success you must infuse faith in the people, and therefore it is indispensable to have faith in yourself and in the ideas you sell; it is therefore a salutary activity, which helps you to know yourself and strengthens your character. It is perhaps the most hygienic of the specialities that const

Imposition Of Candidates Is Undemocratic, Ondo APC Members Tell Tinubu

Dear Asiwaju Tinubu, THE TONIC OF DEMOCRACY IS THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO CHOOSE THEIR LEADERS The ignorant may not actually know our relationship. We share the struggle for democracy which conjured regard for the independent right of our people to vote and to make leaders over themselves. So close it seems, is the relationship that as you once told me you were once approached by yet another old friend President Olusegun Obasanjo to convince me to work for him. Then and for a long time, at least up to 2004, when I decided to join the Political Party AD, I opted to be a go-between the poor masses, poor because they were in truth betrayed by leadership and the powerful few that control the apparatus of power in our land. I have never hidden my appreciation for your political intelligence, accommodation of a different opinion, a great attribute you demonstrated when you accepted my totally separated and independent view, that in the struggle for the Presidency of Nigeria in 2015, wh

Sincerely, Money Can Buy Happiness

When I hear people say that money cannot buy happiness, I look at them, shake my head, and silently remind myself: That's why they'll never have enough of it. Don't just believe something because some big figure said it. Money can buy happiness! It may not buy joy or long term fulfilment but it can certainly buy momentary happiness. And that's what happiness is -- momentary, because life is lived in moments. I'm sure I'll be happier flying from Lagos to Accra than going by road. I can save time, conserve my energy and "hit the ground running". I'm sure I'll be happier doing rural missions with a powerful Range Rover than a Kia Picanto. I can reach areas that might be otherwise inaccessible. All of that take money, friends! And I'm happy to announce to you that I'm going to have more than enough of it, to fulfil my destiny, provide for my family and help people in need. Stop believing the lies that hold you back. You have a b

How My Lost Pen Came Back Finding Me

How My Lost Pen Came Back Finding Me Thus set forth, half chemistry and half teaching work, the problem attracted me. I was reconsidering it that afternoon (it was a Thursday afternoon) as one of the noisy, sooty Sienna buses of Akure lugged me to Jos en-route Abuja. Now it happened that the evening of the same day destiny reserved for me a different and unique gift: the encounter with a woman, young and made of flesh and blood, warm against my side through our overcoats, gay in the misty cold of Jos, patient, wise and sure we were walking down streets still bordered with ruins from the religious crisis of 2012. In a few hours, I felt reborn and replete with new powers, washed clean and cured of tiredness borne from the 12-hours journey, finally ready to enter life with joy and vigor; equally cured was suddenly the world around me, and exorcised the name and face of the woman who had gone down into lower depths to make Jos city a "home away from home" for me. My very wr

Ondo Polls : MY Concern

Elections are just around the corner in Ondo state and as usual, the politicians are strategizing and trying to outwit each other in the race for the coveted seat in Alagbaka Akure. The usual promises are being made and the philosopher kings amongst them have started bamboozling us with different tales of how they are going to make our dear state the next big story out of Nigeria. However, my plea goes out to whoever emerges as the next Governor of my dear Ondo state, the people of Ondo south senatorial district passionately plead with him or her to treat us like we are part of the state and not as a group of people who live on the extreme end of the state and probably should not matter when developmental projects are being discussed. Sigmund Freund once said "being honest with one's self is an entirely good exercise", the people of Ondo south have been greatly shortchanged by the PDP led government in Akure. This is despite the fact that this zone has been known to h

Destitution Of The Aged

DESTITUTION OF THE AGED I really do wonder why people see scenes in movies and shed tears of pains and sorrow. I'm always startled when I see them crying for a mere "acted" drama. As for me, apart from reading a very sensitive part of the Holy Book or by the death of a loved one; nothing more ever brings tears to my eyes than the privation of old people. You must have realised that I mostly write on personal experiences. I do reside in IlΓ jαΊΉ́ (Bariga) with friends, for the sake of schooling and inability to acquire an hostel space within campus, UNILAG; A typical "face me I slap you" apartment (as Nigerians would call it). A very old woman (Mama), most probably an octogenarian resides here; the mother of one of the tenants, clothed roughly, wrinkled scaly and whitened but dark complexioned skin, mostly barefooted, completely grey low-cut hair and brows... The sight of her alone strikes a burden of pity in my heart at every instance. Yesterday noon, at the

The Story Of Yahoo And Nokia: The Biggest Tragedies In Today's Business By Adeleke Aroyewun

The story of Nokia and Yahoo are some of the biggest business tragedies ever seen. One can never forget how Yahoo Messenger became so addictive back in the early 2000s. In those days, the average Nigerian homes do not have internet and so, one is forced to book cybercafΓ© tickets overnight (when it was cheaper) and spend time in different chat rooms. Yahoo became virtually the only email service provider in Nigeria and ofcourse became a tool for fraudsters hence the term, “Yahoo Yahoo” for fraud in Nigeria. Reports have it that in 1998, two undergraduates from Stanford University in the United States who had developed a little known search engine called Google, approached Yahoo and asked the company to buy Google for just $1m so that they could face their studies. Yahoo refused because Google redirects you to other websites instead of making you to stay on its own website. This was Yahoo’s undoing. By 2002, barely four years later, Google’s worth had reached $5bn. Yahoo wanted t

Govt scraps HNDs, Merges Polys With Varsities

Govt scraps HNDs, merges polys with Varsities From Madu Onuorah, Abuja: THE Federal Executive Council (FEC) yesterday approved a comprehensive reform of Nigeria's tertiary education system, scrapping the award of the Higher National Diploma (HND) by the nation's polytechnics. In effect, the award of the HND will be limited to only the students currently admitted for the programmes. Also, all the programmes currently being run by the polytechnics, which are not technology-based, and which are about 70 per cent, will be scrapped. Under the new rule, the polytechnics will now become campuses of the proximate universities with the Vice Chancellors of those universities appointing provosts for the polytechnics, subject to the ratification of the Universities Councils. The polytechnics will now be limited to award of the National Diploma (ND) while those desirous of further education will be awardedthe Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) by the proximate university. My Dreams Got Me Here By Seyi Boya

*Dreams Come True* Dreams come true. It really do. It doesn't matter what the present situation or circumstance is, dreams and desires can almost be equated as same. Just hold on to your dreams or desires, don't give up on it, don't stop walking the path. It doesn't matter how impossible it seems right now, things would work out. Even when it's like you're hitting  the rock just continue, you never know the strike that will do the magic. As a  teenage girl, I had challenges getting admission into a tertiary institution, It was like it would never be. I remember standing at a particular spot at Yaba-Lagos, saw a lady corp member and right there pictured myself being a corp member one day, even though my O'level result wasn't complete and it seems like nothing good can come out of a girl. All thanks to God, a year later, I got admitted into the University of Lagos and fast forward to now, I am a serving Corp member. The whole gist sounds reg

Love Left - - It Left Long Time Ago By Tobi Kale

Love Left--It Left Long Time Ago By Tobi Kale I'll Get My Happy Ending Too - The Confession Of A Boy Seeking Love LOVE is definitely  more complex than just any four letter word. Sometimes, I Can't help but wonder what it really is. Is it meant for only a specific few? I've seen a lot of romantic movies yet my life hasn't experienced even half a scene, these things make me wonder if it truely exists or it's just some make-believe. Some say "you probably tend to fall in love with those who never loved you"- but really how do you get to meet the one who loves you when everyone seems just the same? Other times, they say "life is no fairytale", where you just glance at each other and  fall in love, you have to make your move". You finally make that move only to be left in the dark alone with your imaginations (thinking of the most probable). They leave you lost- in between scary monologues, unreplied texts and then zero emotions.

The Ondo of Lagos State By Debo Ikuesewo-Akinbami

Ondo State of Lagos State The theme tilts  to near sobriety, yet it's a laboratory fact, defying the mask of matters and disregarding the pretty pretexts. Only Lagos State, in the stretch of the west has the King; the rest, kings. The Lagos', King of kings, seats on the heaps, feed on the field of the wheels. The king, the landlord swells with the size of his wealth, and the wealth wrestles the mantles around. But fertile and fatal matter embers. He seeks, on top of a fat and fart wealth, to subdue and subserviate others. He succeeded, obviously and understandably. And sets to conquer the square state, our dear state, the Ondo State of Lagos State. Nothing daunts him, not a former fatal failure at such attempt. He's more resolute. At it again. The time is ripened, riper than the first. He's hardened by a bolder boss, whom he stooped to cap. His gain are the gates of the west. None dares barr his others, not a bearded God, lests he soils his chance. The Ondo St

The Kaduna - Abuja Rail System Conundrum

I have been following a few online discussion on the recently launched Kaduna-Abuja Rail network. I am however not interested in the irresponsible and daft APC Vs PDP 'who did this, who did that crap'. My interest is the pricing and my stone -cast belief is that the network will collapse and fall into disuse in less than 3 years, maximum of 5. Go and check previous records from Nigeria Railway Corporation and Nigeria Airways. The signs are are all visible to anyone who has the faintest idea of how brutally and viciously expensive it is to run a rail network. Nigerian public service is generally run by idiots. Wait, don't tell me I swear a lot because I have loads of evidence why I am absolutely certain that our public services are run by nincompoops. Name one public infrastructure that works. If you can't name one, you either read on or STFU and go to Linda's blog. I want to discuss with intelligent folks. How can a rail network from Kaduna to Abuja be priced

The Will of the Father stated that the Eldest son should get Half of 17 Camels, The Middle Son should be given 1/3rd of 17 Camels, Youngest Son should be given 1/9th of the 17 Camels, As it is not possible to divide 17 into half or 17 by 3 or 17 by 9, the sons started to fight with each other. So, they decided to go to a wise man. The wise man listened patiently about the Will. The wise man, after giving this thought, brought one πŸͺ camel of his own & added the same to 17. That increased the total to 18 camels. Now, he started reading the deceased father’s will. Half of 18 = 9. So he gave 9 camels to the eldest son. 1/3rd of 18 = 6. So he gave 6 camels to the middle son. 1/9th of 18 = 2. So he gave 2 camels to the youngest son. Now add this up: 9 + 6 + 2 = 17 & This leaves 1 camel, which the wise ma

RECIPE FOR REAL AND LASTING CHANGE BY FEMI MIMIKO

PROF. FEMI MIMIKO'S RECIPE FOR REAL & LASTING CHANGE. (Guardian of 3rd July, 2016) Read on: I closed my more recent intervention on the Nigerian situation in the media a little above one year ago on the note that the omens were bad. It doesn’t require expertise of any kind to know that the situation today is much more challenging than it was then, and arguably more than it had ever been in the history of the country. The economic stress that a preponderance of Nigerians are going through today is much more than we had seen in several years. The country is much more divided now than at any other time in its recent history. Desires for secession, always conveyed in hushed tones since the end of the Civil War, are now proclaimed from the rooftops, with all manners of makeshift currency designs circulating on the Internet. Human lives have suddenly come so cheaply in the hands of marauding gangs operating with impunity across the land. Most of the state governments are locked
