The Power Of Story : Why Sex, And Not Climate Change, May End The World

Contrary to popular belief, Sex, and not Climate change as commonly believed, may be the death knell that seals man’s fate on earth.

A while ago, a friend shared a photograph on our old Boy’s Association WhatsApp page. Except for the cryptic message of “Once Men” displayed on the photograph, one would have rightly assumed that every lady in that photograph was given birth to as a female. On the contrary, these were all once males who have undergone one form of sexual change or the other.

Welcome to the Power of Story.

Cataclysmic changes in the world will be brought about by Sex and not by Climate Change and the best evidences we have lies in these seven instances below:

First, we are now well seated in a perfect gender-neutral world. Before the other changes I consider cataclysmic would take place, there is a more insidious change that will hit humans and that is the irrelevance of the use of titles like Mr., and Mrs.

In place of Mr., and Mrs., according to www.dictionary.com, we now would have Mx., (pronounced Mix) and a lot of people would rather be identified as Mx., than the traditional Mr., and Mrs. This works well into the narrative of making gender so neutral that it loses every meaning that we have ever attached to it.

With Mx., men and women can now elect to be gender neutral. With Mx., transgenders and queers and other oddballs would be more popular and better tolerated as things as simple as clothings would no longer be separated between the sexes. The American departmental store, Target, already does not differentiate between boys and girls clothings. Boys and girls would start wearing the same clothes from birth and as they grow, older men’s clothings for instance may be worn by females who so desire.

The concept of Man and Woman would become so fluid that sexual orientation as a whole can now be viewed and regarded as the same, or even non existent. At some point all the sexes would be the same. Equality of genders would be achieved through the irrelevance of the male and female gender and it would become more acceptable to all. These changes are not going to happen overnight, otherwise it would be resisted, but it would come upon us like “the thief in the night,” and as such would not be easily noticed, let alone resisted. Men can elect to be females today and revert back to being males tomorrow. Sexual orientation would be easily determined by mood and no longer by choice.

Second, women would no longer be required to make babies. The concept of women bearing babies would be so archaic because artificial wombs would be the norm as the same conditions can be created outside of a woman’s womb to make it possible for babies to be delivered without any involvement of a woman. A lot of children would come in to the world without having been borne to term by any known woman. This would have very deep implications for the human race because that bond that normally comes between a mother and a child would no longer exist. Babies can be nurtured in womb-like environments without the involvement of any human agent.

Third, smart sex and love hotels would become more popular and refined sex would be the standard sex everyone aspires to get. Just as our lives and work have been taken over by smart phones and robots, algorithms would also determine how sex should be performed and enjoyed. Hotels will function more as technological hubs to redefine love making in every sense – hotel rooms will no longer be dumb, but active players in the love game as they would now be technologically built to monitor physical exchanges between guests with lights and temperature of the room adjusting itself to match the presumed mood and level of activities of those inside the suite. Robots and algorithm will function more effectively in hotels and help determine our sexual preferences and perfect our mating games. You can now check into a hotel and have great sex with say a sex doll and not even a human being.

Fourth, virtual reality would change sex in ways yet imagined. As pornography becomes delivered through virtual and augmented reality, human sex would assume a more frightening dimension – more captivating, more immersive and more convincing. Physical sex will no longer be as enthralling when compared to virtual and augmented sex. With augmented and virtual sex firmly entrenched in the minds of men and women, real sex would be blown away. Virtual and augmented sex will become the fix that every man and woman would crave for because though unreal, the effect of virtual and augmented sex on the eyes and the brain will makes for an encounter that can never be experienced in the physical. Men and women will no longer be needed to fix sex. Virtual and augmented devices will empower our sexual activities and when the brain is permanently conditioned in this surreal manner, the need for man or woman to make sex happen would no longer be necessary.

Fifth, men would become lovers to robots. Robots would be more reliable than humans when it comes to sex and that would change the composition of families. When the concept of the family is irreversibly changed, then the idea of who a human being is would have completely been lost on everyone alive. Robots would be more reliable as spouses and men would not be bound to any marital vows and no more commitments whatsoever. No marital vows and contracts and no children as sex would still be awesome and more memorable without any entrapments. All within the next 10 years, robotic sex will be the norm and sex among humans would be significantly altered. Humans who once are lonely will find solace in the hands of smart machines and devices that are more responsive, more self-conscious and maybe more reasonable to our sexual demands than humans.

Sixth, the disturbing trends of sexual research do not give comfort, or even respite for the future of man and sex. Some of them are worth mentioning though. There is this controversial study that posited that women are bisexual and gays, but almost ever straight. According to Dr. Gerulf Rieger, one of the Researchers, “Even though the majority of women identify as straight, our research clearly demonstrates that when it comes to what turns them on, they are either bisexual or gay, but never straight.”

Seventh, young people are no longer having sex in some countries. And if younger people are no longer having sex in some countries, it is only rational to say that as technology gets smarter, these young people may turn to robots to get the sexual satisfaction that humans cannot provide them. In 2014, Durex conducted an international sexual survey, where they pooled 26,000 people over 26 countries and found out that these top ten countries are having sex the least frequently – at 10, Thailand (65%); 9, New Zealand (63%); 8, Holland (63%); 7, Singapore (62%); 6, Australia (60%); 5, Canada (59%); 4, UK (55%); 3, USA (53%); 2, Nigeria (53%); and 1, Japan (34%). Imagine, Nigeria ranks No. 2 on the list of countries having the least sex.

A final issue to consider is if climate change can be reversed, would the sexual revolution of this coming decade also be reversible? In my opinion, the answer is NO.

It might just be possible to reverse climate change if man can reduce his dependence on fossil fuels and that seems feasible in the race to produce green and autonomous cars, reducing dependence on coal and some of the dangerous activities that has brought us to where we are today. The same cannot be said for the changes all these tinkering with our sexual activities will unleash. The reason is simple, when sexual roles become blurred and sex with machines take over, there would be a significant reduction in the human population. It would now be easier to produce more machines than it is to produce humans over time and that is a far greater danger than the fear of machines taking over our jobs.

The consequences of the complete destruction of the family unit will be quite deep as parenting would no longer be required and the desire to bear children would be non existent. Man and woman would no longer be the driving force behind the population of the world and this in itself would be a potent sign of how well our own destruction has become irreversible.

What should a wise man do?
This is the time to reflect on the changes and choices that we crave. As much as we want to depend on robots and algorithm, we should also be aware of the unintended consequences of our choices. These changes have been well documented and dramatized in films and documentaries. For instance, in Her, we follow the life of a man who fell in love with a computer and everything he does became regulated by the computer. We are likely not going to see the world as it in another decade because of the need to push the boundaries of knowledge. In doing this, it is time to ponder about the things we are likely to give up and Sex is a major component of what we would lose when we eventually become as wise or even wiser than God. And when that happens, we can as well document the end of the human race as we know it.
