Treachery Will Not Be Forgivable By Martins Abiodun

Treachery Will Not Be Forgivable

I am appalled at the ostensible fickleness of some uninhibited Nigerians who had over the years opposed deregulation of the downstream oil sector especially in 2012 during the last administration. My conviction against deregulation then was firm and that was because we are living in matrix. Some of us may look chubby but the fact is we are suffering from kwashiorkor and this is borne out of the hypocritic nature of the characters that characterized the last administration. Therefore, it would tantamount to an onslaught and inimicality if subsidy is removed by these elements because no realistic palliatives will materialize and the aftermath would be privation, destitution, poverty, austerity and impecuniousness.

On this position I stand until some weeks ago when the current administration pronounced the outright removal of the fuel subsidy. Sincerely, I was shocked and disappointed at this pronouncement.  I remembered nostalgically some of the electoral promises of the incumbent President especially this “if he (President Muhammed Buhari) could be given the opportunity to lead the price of petrol would be reduced to #45”.

Well, It is an axiom that the factors during the president’s manifestoes might be different to the present situation but I could remember vividly that every manifesto during Mr President’s campaign was down to a fine art whether on Tv and radio stations or on dailies. I belong to everybody and belong to nobody was another epic quote of the president  Muhammed Buhari in 2015 during the presidential inauguration that clinches reposefulness of Nigerians’ trust irrespective of our political, ethnicity and religious affiliations.

However, It is a year plus since President Muhammed Buhari resumed office  all that we have been experiencing is far and wide from his electoral promises let alone dividend of democracy. The untold hardship in the land increases on daily basis. Is it poor power supply, hikes in commodities, scarcity in fuel supply, hike in accommodation, unavailable drinkable water and many more.

Let it be cleared that my effort during the electioneering for APC is immeasurable together with the likes of Agbabiaka Ahmed, Ogundipe Olanrewaju, Adebakin Sirajudeen, Babalola Oladeji Paul, Jawosimi Olusegun, Kunle Adegunoye, Enitan Abayomi Oguntola, Olanisimi Oluwatobi Michael Cossy Modella, et al. Our struggle was to enthrone a pro Masses government with men like  Buhari-osinbajo because of their track records which today is a success.

Also, It is apposite to say that I am not expecting magic because I didn’t vote for a magician. But truth be told, my present economic condition and that of other patriotic Nigerians who honestly worked for the enthronement of APC are becoming unbearable due to the wave of the change.

Regardless, I still want to believe that this is a trying time in our dear nation and for any nation to be great her citizens must be ready to sacrifice. I can see a silver lining, therefore, I want to implore all  Nigerians and lovers of good governance not to be discouraged. It is temporal; soon we shall all smile.

Finally, the APC government should know that Nigerians supported and voted them not because they are the best but because of the track records of a few among them and the quest for positive change in our economy, health sector,  industrial sector, educational sector, governance, leadership and everything that affects our living. Therefore, any attempt that is inconsistent with all these means a deliberate onslaught and will not be forgivable.
